Share

Who qualifies

The DTV is for remote workers and digital nomads employed by or contracting with companies outside Thailand, freelancers, and applicants joining "soft power" activities (Muay Thai, Thai cooking, medical treatment, sports, seminars). You apply from outside Thailand through the official Thai e-Visa system.

The headline financial requirement is proof of at least THB 500,000 in available funds — and since 2026 this must be shown as roughly 3 months of seasoned bank statements; embassies now reject lump-sum deposits made shortly before applying. Since 1 January 2025 all Royal Thai missions process the DTV through the mandatory e-Visa portal.

Step by step

1) Create an account on the official Thai e-Visa portal and select the DTV category. 2) Upload your passport, photo, proof of funds (THB 500,000+), and evidence of your remote work, freelance contracts, or activity enrolment. 3) Pay the visa fee. 4) Receive your e-visa by email — no embassy visit is usually required. 5) Enter Thailand for up to 180 days per entry; extend once in-country at an immigration office.

Processing times vary by location; apply well before your intended travel.

Renting a home on a DTV

A DTV is sufficient to sign a residential lease in Thailand — no work permit is required for remote work performed for overseas clients. See our DTV housing guide for the best Bangkok areas and budgets.

Frequently asked questions

What is the income or money requirement for the DTV?

You must show at least THB 500,000 (roughly USD 14,000) in available funds. There is no minimum monthly salary requirement, but you must evidence remote employment, freelance contracts, or enrolment in a qualifying activity.

How long can I stay in Thailand on a DTV?

Up to 180 days per entry, extendable once by another 180 days at a Thai immigration office. The visa itself is valid for five years with multiple entries.

Can I work for a Thai company on a DTV?

No. The DTV is for remote work for employers or clients outside Thailand, or for qualifying soft-power activities. Working for a Thai employer requires a work permit and the appropriate visa.

Where do I apply for the DTV?

Through Thailand's official e-Visa portal (thaievisa.go.th) from outside Thailand. Most approvals are issued electronically without an in-person embassy visit.
