All 12 areas BAANLYY maps across Krabi, grouped into five zones from the developed Ao Nang/Klong Muang beach coast and Krabi Town's suburbs to the boat-only Railay peninsula, the long-stay islands and rural Ao Luek. Pick a zone, or jump straight to an area guide.
Krabi spans a developed Andaman beach coast, a working provincial capital, a boat-only rock-climbing peninsula, two very different long-stay islands and a quiet rural north. BAANLYY groups all 12 areas it maps into five zones — from the Beach & Resort Coast around Ao Nang, Klong Muang and Tab Kaak, through Krabi Town & Suburbs for everyday Thai life and the lowest mainland rents, out to the Railay Peninsula, the Islands at Koh Lanta and Koh Jum, and rural Ao Luek. Every area links through to a full guide with rent ranges, transport, beaches, schools, hospitals and lifestyle.
Krabi's developed Andaman coastline — Ao Nang's beach-town buzz and widest rental choice, the quiet upscale strips at Klong Muang and Tab Kaak, and the pier village at Ao Nam Mao.
The riverside provincial capital and its satellite districts — everyday Thai life, the cheapest long-term rents on the mainland, and the transport hub for the airport, buses and island ferries.
A boat-only peninsula of towering limestone cliffs and white-sand bays — world-famous for rock climbing, with a barefoot, car-free resort lifestyle rather than a long-term rental market.
Krabi's long-stay islands — Koh Lanta's real digital-nomad and expat community along kilometres of west-coast beaches, and the deliberately undeveloped Koh Jum for renters who want to truly switch off.
Ao Luek's rural karst-and-mangrove country north of Krabi Town — Than Bok Khorani National Park, sea-canoeing at Ao Thalane, and some of the province's cheapest living, about 45 minutes from the mainland hub.
BAANLYY maps 12 distinct Krabi areas across five zones — the beach and resort coast, Krabi Town and its suburbs, the Railay peninsula, the long-stay islands of Koh Lanta and Koh Jum, and rural Ao Luek. Each has its own guide covering rent, transport, beaches, schools, hospitals and lifestyle.
It depends on what you value. Ao Nang is the default choice for the widest rental selection, restaurants and services. Klong Muang and Tab Kaak suit retirees and long-stayers who want a quieter, more upscale beach setting. Krabi Town is the cheapest way to live centrally with everyday Thai life and the best transport links. Koh Lanta suits those wanting a genuine long-stay island community with more space and a slower pace.
Krabi Town and Sai Thai generally have the lowest rents on the mainland, roughly ฿5,000–9,000 a month for a studio or room. Ao Luek, in the rural north, is even cheaper — from around ฿4,000 for a simple room — but is remote, with beaches roughly an hour away.
It depends on the area. Railay is boat-only — no road connects it to the rest of Krabi, so longtail boats from Ao Nang or Krabi Town are the only way in and out. Koh Lanta and Koh Jum need a ferry, minivan-and-boat transfer or the Lanta car bridge. On the mainland — Ao Nang, Klong Muang, Krabi Town and the surrounding suburbs — a scooter or car is close to essential for daily life, since songthaews cover only the main routes.
Railay and neighbouring Tonsai are Krabi's — and Thailand's — best-known rock-climbing destination, with hundreds of routes across limestone cliffs and sea-cave deep-water soloing. Koh Lanta and the Ao Thalane/Ao Luek area suit sea-kayaking and mangrove exploring, while Ao Nang is the main base for island-hopping day trips to Hong Island and beyond.
