Laundry is one of the small daily luxuries of living in Bangkok: for the price of a coffee back home, a neighbourhood shop will wash, dry and fold a week of clothes and have them ready the next day. Between 24-hour self-service laundromats on every soi, wash-and-fold shops charging by the kilo, in-building condo services and proper dry cleaners for suits and delicates, you are never far from a solution. This guide covers the types of service, what they cost in baht, pickup-and-delivery apps, turnaround times, and the practical tips that keep your clothes in good shape.

Types of laundry service

Self-service laundromats (Otteri, Wash Coin)DIY

Coin and QR-operated laundromats are on almost every soi. Otteri Wash & Dry is the largest 24-hour chain, with Wash Coin, LAV and dozens of independents alongside it. You load a machine yourself, add detergent (sold on-site or bring your own), and wash then tumble-dry in about an hour. A wash runs roughly 40-70 baht depending on drum size, with drying about 20 baht per 10 minutes. Ideal if your condo has no machine and you want laundry done the same hour.

Neighbourhood wash-and-fold (ร้านซักรีด)Wash & fold

The classic Thai laundry shop - look for the ซักรีด (sak reet) sign - takes your bag, weighs it, and returns everything washed, dried and neatly folded, usually next day. This is what most expats use week to week: you drop off, they charge by the kilo, and you collect pressed clothes with nothing to do yourself. Many also iron on request and handle bedding, towels and curtains.

Hotel & in-condo laundryBuilding service

Serviced apartments, hotels and many condos offer an in-house or partnered laundry - a bag and price list in the room or a counter in the lobby. It is the most convenient option and the most expensive, often charged per item rather than per kilo. Handy for a one-off or a suit, but for routine loads a neighbourhood shop is a fraction of the price.

Premium & specialist dry cleaningDry clean

For suits, silk, formal wear, leather, wedding dresses and delicate fabrics, use a dedicated dry cleaner rather than a wash-and-fold shop. Chains and standalone cleaners across the city (and inside most malls and department stores) offer proper solvent dry cleaning, pressing and alterations. Expect per-item pricing and a two-to-four day turnaround, with same-day express available at a premium.

What it costs - THB rates

Wash-and-fold per kilo~40-60 THB/kg

The standard neighbourhood rate is about 40-60 baht per kilogram for wash, dry and fold, sometimes with a minimum charge of a few kilos. A typical week of one person's clothes is 3-5 kg, so a weekly wash lands around 150-300 baht. Ironing is usually extra (roughly 10-20 baht per item or a small per-kilo add-on). Rates are lower in outer districts and higher in Sukhumvit and Sathorn.

Self-service machine costCoin/QR

At an Otteri-style laundromat, budget about 40-70 baht per wash and 20 baht per 10 minutes of drying, so a full load washed and dried is roughly 80-120 baht plus detergent. Machines take coins, banknotes or QR/app payment, and larger drums (for bedding and bulk) cost a little more. It is cheaper than in-condo laundry and faster than a drop-off shop when you need it same-hour.

Dry cleaning & pressingPer item

Dry cleaning is priced per garment: a shirt pressed is often 30-60 baht, trousers 60-100 baht, and a two-piece suit roughly 200-350 baht depending on the cleaner and area. Delicate, formal and leather items cost more. Simple ironing-only service is cheaper than full dry cleaning. Mall-based cleaners charge more than a local shop but are convenient and reliable.

Express & delivery surchargesAdd-ons

Same-day or express service (a few hours instead of next day) typically adds 30-50 percent. Pickup-and-delivery apps and shops that collect from your condo may add a delivery fee or set a minimum order, though many waive it above a threshold. Bedding, curtains, shoes and large or bulky items are usually quoted separately rather than by the standard per-kilo rate.

Delivery apps & practical tips

Pickup & delivery appsOn-demand

You do not have to leave the condo: on-demand laundry services and many local shops via LINE will collect a bag, wash-and-fold or dry clean it, and return it to your lobby within 24-48 hours. Some GrabExpress-style couriers can also ferry a bag to and from your usual shop. Message the shop on LINE to arrange a regular weekly pickup and a standing account.

Protect your clothesCare

Put delicates, underwear and anything that can snag into a mesh laundry bag before dropping off, and point out stains or items that must be washed cold or air-dried - Thai shops often use hot tumble-drying that can shrink or fade. Keep genuinely valuable, structured or dry-clean-only pieces out of the per-kilo bag and take them to a proper dry cleaner instead.

Ironing, suits & formal wearPressing

For work shirts and formal wear, either pay the small ironing add-on at your wash-and-fold shop or use a dedicated presser - results are far better than condo self-service. Suits, blazers and anything tailored should go to a dry cleaner, not a per-kilo shop. Bangkok also has excellent, cheap tailors and alteration counters, often at the same cleaners, for repairs and resizing.

Finding a shop near youSourcing

Search Google Maps or the delivery apps for laundry, ซักรีด or laundromat near your building - every residential soi has several within a short walk. Ask your condo juristic office or a neighbour for the shop most residents use; the good ones build a loyal following on reliability and careful folding. Note opening hours: drop-off shops often close early evening, while Otteri-style laundromats run 24 hours.

FAQ

Bangkok laundry FAQ

How much does laundry cost in Bangkok?

Neighbourhood wash-and-fold shops charge roughly 40-60 baht per kilogram, so a typical weekly load of 3-5 kg costs about 150-300 baht including drying and folding. Self-service laundromats run around 40-70 baht per wash plus about 20 baht per 10 minutes of drying. Dry cleaning is priced per item - roughly 30-60 baht for a pressed shirt and 200-350 baht for a suit.

Where can I do laundry if my condo has no washing machine?

Use a self-service laundromat or a neighbourhood wash-and-fold shop - both are on almost every soi. Otteri Wash & Dry and similar 24-hour coin/QR laundromats let you wash and dry in about an hour, while a sak reet shop takes your bag and returns it washed, dried and folded next day. Many shops and apps will also collect from and deliver back to your condo.

Is there laundry pickup and delivery in Bangkok?

Yes. On-demand laundry apps and many local shops arrange pickup and delivery, usually via LINE or an app: they collect a bag from your lobby, wash-and-fold or dry clean it, and return it within 24-48 hours, sometimes with a delivery fee or minimum order. You can also set up a standing weekly collection with your usual neighbourhood shop.

Where should I get a suit or delicate items dry cleaned?

Take suits, silk, formal wear, leather and wedding dresses to a dedicated dry cleaner rather than a per-kilo wash-and-fold shop. Reliable dry cleaners operate across the city and inside most malls and department stores, offering solvent dry cleaning, pressing and alterations with a two-to-four day turnaround and same-day express at a premium.

Will Thai laundry shops shrink or damage my clothes?

Most are careful, but many use hot tumble-drying that can shrink or fade some fabrics, so put delicates in a mesh bag, flag anything that must be washed cold or air-dried, and keep dry-clean-only pieces out of the per-kilo bag. For valuable or structured garments, use a proper dry cleaner instead of a general wash-and-fold service.
