Buriram Rajabhat University (BRU) traces its history to October 1971, when it was founded as Buriram Teachers' College to help meet Thailand's demand for qualified teachers, per the university's own official history page. In 1995 it became Buriram Rajabhat Institute under the Rajabhat Institute Act, and in 2004 it was proclaimed a full juristic-person university -- Buriram Rajabhat University -- under the Rajabhat University Act.
