Public university · founded 1998 · Mueang Chiang Rai
Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) was established under royal charter in 1998, named to commemorate Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra -- known to her subjects as "Mae Fah Luang" -- and created to serve the needs of people across northern Thailand and neighbouring countries. The university sits at 333 Moo 1, Tambon Tha Sut, Mueang Chiang Rai District.
Known as the "University in the Park" for its roughly 800-hectare wooded hillside campus in northern Chiang Rai, MFU was built mostly across hills with only a small area of flat land, and offers programs spanning science, medicine, management, liberal arts, law and Chinese studies -- with a notably international, research-oriented profile for a university of its age.
