Public university · founded 1967 · Hat Yai
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) was established in 1967 as the first university in southern Thailand. Lady Atthakraweesunthorn donated a 690-rai plot of land at Tambon Kho Hong in Hat Yai district for a new campus, with construction starting in 1969. On 5 July 1971, around two hundred Faculty of Engineering students and staff moved into the partially completed Hat Yai campus, and it opened formally that year.
The Hat Yai campus, at 15 Kanjanavanich Road, Tambon Kho Hong, is now PSU's main campus, home to more than half of the university's total student body across faculties including engineering, science, medicine, management, liberal arts and more. PSU also operates additional campuses in Pattani, Phuket, Surat Thani and Trang, but Hat Yai remains the flagship.
