Public university · founded 1957 · Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) is a public university at Tha Ngio Subdistrict in Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District -- inside the provincial capital itself, unlike Walailak's out-of-town campus. Founded in 1957 as a teacher-training college, it was given the royal name "Rajabhat Institute Nakhon Si Thammarat" by King Bhumibol Adulyadej in February 1992, then converted to full university status in 2004 when Thailand's teacher-training colleges were reorganised nationwide into the modern Rajabhat University system.
As part of that system, NSTRU has broadened well beyond its teacher-training roots into a comprehensive regional university offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes across faculties including Education, Management Sciences, Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Agricultural Technology -- while its Graduate Diploma in the Teaching Profession continues the university's original mission of training teachers for the province.
