Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) is a royally chartered Buddhist university whose main campus sits at Wang Noi, Ayutthaya, and which operates a nationwide network of regional campuses extending Buddhist higher education across Thailand. Its Nong Khai Campus, established on 7 June 1978, was MCU's very first branch campus -- created specifically to extend Buddhist education into northern and northeastern Thailand, ahead of the Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen campuses that followed through the 1980s.
The campus sits in Khai Buk Wan Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District, and follows MCU's standard academic structure -- Buddhist Studies, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences programs for monks and lay students alike, alongside a graduate studies unit -- with a strong emphasis on community outreach and regional Buddhist scholarship for the Isaan and Mekong border area.
