Bangkok University traces its roots to 1962, when it was founded in Bangkok's Kluay Nam Thai area as the Thai Polytechnic Institute; it was renamed Bangkok College in 1965 and became Bangkok University in 1984. As enrollment grew, the university expanded to a second campus on Phahonyothin Road in Khlong Neung Sub-district, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani -- built out through the 1990s and now the university's main campus, with the original Bangkok site (renamed the Kluay Nam Thai campus) ceasing regular instruction after the 2022 academic year once all courses relocated to Rangsit.
The Rangsit campus spans roughly 265,000 square metres and hosts the Surat Osathanugrah Library, the Pongtip Osathanugrah Communication Arts Complex, the BU Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum, and the home stadium of Bangkok University FC. It is the first campus in Thailand to meet the ISO 14001 environmental-management standard, and today houses the university's international programs, graduate school, and most faculties for third- and fourth-year students, alongside first- and second-year and communication-arts students who study there from day one.
