Public university · founded 1971 · Mueang Phuket District
Phuket Rajabhat University traces its roots to 1971 as a teacher training college, part of the nationwide Rajabhat network that modernised Thailand's provincial teacher-training institutes. Like the other Rajabhat institutes, it was granted full university status in 2004 under the national Rajabhat University Act, becoming Phuket Rajabhat University -- one of only two government universities on the island alongside Prince of Songkla University's Phuket Campus.
The main campus sits in Ratsada, on the outskirts of Phuket Town, and is organised into five faculties -- Science and Technology, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, and Agricultural Technology -- plus the Phuket College of International Tourism, a natural fit for an island economy built on hospitality. PKRU positions itself as a practical, budget-friendly option with a growing slate of English-medium offerings and international partnerships for exchange and joint research.
