Huachiew Chalermprakiet University traces its roots to 1938, when it began as a midwifery centre founded by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Thailand's largest overseas-Chinese charitable organisation. It expanded into a nursing college in the early 1980s (named Huachiew College) and was granted full university status in 1992, taking its present name.
HCU's main campus sits at 18/18 Bangna-Trad Road km 18 in Bang Chalong sub-district, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan -- the province's one established private university, offering a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs across faculties including nursing, public health, pharmacy, science and technology, business, and Chinese-Thai studies reflecting its overseas-Chinese charitable origins.
