Public university · founded 1987 · Warin Chamrap, Ubon Ratchathani
Ubon Ratchathani University was established in September 1987 as a regional campus of Khon Kaen University, then conferred independent university status by royal charter in 1990 -- the 19th public university under Thailand's then Ministry of University Affairs. It was created to bring higher education to the lower northeastern region and the Mekong border area around Ubon Ratchathani.
The main campus sits on Sathonlamark Road (also written the Warin-Det Udom Road) in Warin Chamrap district, roughly 15 km south of Ubon Ratchathani city on a spacious rural site of around 5,200 rai. UBU has grown into a comprehensive research university spanning science, engineering, agriculture, liberal arts, medicine, pharmacy, law, business and nursing.
