Living, renting & investing in Koh Jum.

A deliberately undeveloped island between the mainland and Koh Lanta — no roads to speak of, no big resorts, just quiet beaches and a rustic, off-grid pace for renters who truly want to switch off.

Overview

Koh Jum (also called Koh Pu) sits between Krabi's mainland and Koh Lanta, and it has stayed deliberately low-key: fishing and rubber villages, simple beach bungalows, a scattering of small eco-resorts, and long empty beaches on the west coast. There are no high-rises, no nightlife strip and only rough tracks rather than a proper road network — the appeal is precisely how little there is.

For renters this is a niche, rustic choice: a place to slow right down, with limited power and internet in places and a strongly seasonal rhythm. Long-term rental stock is scarce and mostly informal, so it suits a specific kind of long-stayer — someone who wants nature and solitude over convenience and is content to boat to the mainland or Lanta for anything beyond the basics.

Rental & sale pricing

Indicative long-term monthly rents in Koh Jum, by unit size. Ranges reflect the spread from older or smaller stock to new, high-spec properties — short-term holiday rates are higher, especially in the November–March high season. Verify current asking prices on individual listings.

UnitMonthly rent (THB)
Bungalow / room฿5,000฿10,000

2 bedroom / house฿13,000฿25,000

Sale stock is essentially local land and small resort plots, almost always Thai-titled or leasehold; there is no condo market, so foreigners here rent informally rather than buy.

Getting around

Connections

Krabi International Airport (KBV) (~1.5–2 hr via pier + boat) · Longtail & ferry (from Laem Kruat & Lanta) · Ferry flag-stop (Krabi–Lanta boats call offshore) · Scooter / walking (tracks only on-island)

Access is by boat — longtails from Laem Kruat pier on the mainland, or the Krabi–Koh Lanta ferry that flag-stops offshore. On-island there are only tracks, so people walk or use scooters. Allow one-and-a-half to two hours to Krabi airport including the crossing.

FAQ

Koh Jum — frequently asked questions

Can you live long-term on Koh Jum?

You can, but it is a niche choice. Koh Jum suits slow-living, digital-detox renters who value solitude and nature over convenience and are comfortable with patchy infrastructure and a seasonal rhythm. Long-term rentals are scarce and mostly informal.

How do you get to Koh Jum?

By boat — longtails from Laem Kruat pier on the mainland, or the Krabi–Koh Lanta ferry, which makes a flag-stop offshore and transfers you by longtail. Reckon on one-and-a-half to two hours from Krabi airport including the crossing.

Is there internet and power on Koh Jum?

In the main resort areas, yes, but it can be limited or intermittent in places, and some spots rely on generators. It is workable for light remote work but not ideal if you need guaranteed high-speed connectivity.

How much does it cost to stay on Koh Jum?

It is cheap: indicative long-term rates run roughly THB 8,000–15,000 for a one-bed and THB 5,000–10,000 for a simple bungalow, though supply is informal and strongly seasonal.
