Overview

Cape Panwa (Laem Phanwa) is the hilly peninsula that hangs off Phuket's southeast corner, wrapping Ao Yon and Panwa bays. It's one of the island's quietest and most local corners: sea-view villas and low-rise condos climb the headland, fishing boats and small marinas dot the water, and the Phuket Aquarium sits at the tip. Views here look east across the bay to Chalong and the smaller islands rather than west to open-ocean sunsets.

It draws long-stay residents who want tranquillity, sea views and quick access to Phuket Town — about ten minutes away — over beach nightlife and tourist bustle. Swimming beaches are modest (Ao Yon is the main one), so Panwa is more about the water views, boating and calm than surf and sand. A car is essential, but you trade that for one of the most peaceful, community-feeling settings on Phuket.

Getting around

Connections

Phuket Town (~10-15 min) · Phuket International Airport (HKT) (~45-55 min) · Ao Yon & Panwa marinas (boating) · Grab / Bolt & taxis (island-wide)

Cape Panwa sits at the island's southeast tip, about 10-15 minutes from Phuket Town but 45-55 minutes from the airport and the western beaches. With no rail on Phuket, a car is essential given the hilly, spread-out terrain; the reward is quiet lanes and sea views rather than traffic.

FAQ

Cape Panwa — frequently asked questions

What makes Cape Panwa special?

It's one of Phuket's quietest, most local peninsulas — hillside sea-view villas, small marinas, the aquarium and calm bays, all about ten minutes from Phuket Town. It trades beach nightlife for tranquillity and panoramic water views.

Does Cape Panwa have good beaches?

Modest ones. Ao Yon is the main calm swimming bay and resorts have their own coves, but Panwa is more about sea views, boating and quiet than the long sandy beaches of the west coast.

How much is rent on Cape Panwa?

Indicative long-term rents are about THB 10,000-18,000 for a studio, THB 15,000-30,000 for a one-bedroom and THB 25,000-52,000 for a two-bedroom, with sea-view villas commonly THB 45,000-120,000.

Is Cape Panwa convenient for Phuket Town?

Yes — it's only about 10-15 minutes to Phuket Town's hospitals, schools, markets and offices, which makes Panwa popular with residents who want a quiet sea-view home within easy reach of the island's real city.
