Overview

Ao Luek is the district town and countryside north of Krabi Town, gateway to Than Bok Khorani National Park and the celebrated sea-canoeing at Ao Thalane and the Bor Thor caves, where mangrove channels wind between limestone karsts. It is deeply rural — rubber and palm plantations, local markets, waterfalls and caves — and almost entirely off the foreign-rental radar, which is exactly why it is so cheap.

For renters this is frontier value: local Thai houses and land at prices well below the coast, in spectacular karst scenery, roughly 45 minutes from Krabi Town and the airport and about an hour to Ao Nang's beaches. It suits a very specific renter — someone who wants space, nature and rock-bottom costs, has their own vehicle, and doesn't mind that daily life is entirely local and beach access means a drive.
